Ways To Give

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

In the sermon "Formed By Giving", Pastor Jay delves into the subject of money and its relation to our hearts, as frequently discussed in the Bible by Jesus. He highlights the importance of understanding the connection between our hearts and our financial actions, referencing Luke 16:13 which states that one cannot serve both God and money. The sermon focuses on the application of tithes and offerings, specifically the idea of giving first fruits and giving out of love and joy, rather than obligation.

Pastor Jay also explores the concept of kingdom stewardship, emphasizing the importance of living below one's means and using extra resources for kingdom purposes. He encourages everyone to think about the question, "How much is God's kingdom worth to me?" and references the parable of the treasure in a field found in Matthew 13:44, where a man sells everything he has to buy a treasure.

The sermon reminds listeners that giving is ultimately about the state of one's heart, and encourages them to be watchful of being stingy. Instead, they should focus on aligning their hearts with God, as illustrated in 1 John 3:16, which states "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters." The sermon also encourages listeners to pray for guidance and discernment on how to use their resources for God's kingdom.
